What is Archaeology?

Archaeology is the scientific study of the past cultures and the way people lived, based on the things
(material culture) they left behind, or
 Archaeology is the study of past human behavior through the systematic recovery and analysis of material remains or objects.
It is a subfield of anthropology, the study of all human culture. Archaeology links with many subjects,including geography, geology, history, tribal studies, maths, statistics, physics, biology, chemistry, physics, art, religion, and technology.
What is scope of Archaeology?
Archaeologist can helps to create true History via material culture like (Explorations, Excavations,
Stone tools, Rock Art, Inscriptions, Coins, Seals, Art, Architecture etc.) . An archaeologist through an
archaeological artifact can identify the importance of the things of our past and its important aspect
in today’s life style.

   “It is not only about getting government job;  it is about knowing our past and to come       forward to protect our past by various ways”

Value of Archaeology ?
Archaeology can realize you about your glorious past, world class heritage, can increase revenue, for
your own proud, can tell you about your own gradual development from primitive to modern. The
goal of archaeology is to understand how and why human behavior has changed over time.
What is the Role of an Archaeologist?
To evaluate our cultural developments since stone age to mobile age. To show you that what was our
past and how the human behaves change over time.
What are the Career Opportunities?
AS- Archaeologist (Group A to B- UPSC to SSC), Professor/Teaching, Archivist, Museologist, Historian.
Eligibility Required for an Archaeologist-
1. Post-Graduation in Archaeology, History, Geography, Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit, Geology, Botany,
Zoology, Anthropology, Museology etc.,
2. (01-year or 02 years) Diploma in Archaeology, Epigraphy,
3. Ph.D. on above cited subjects.

Best Institutions for Archaeology-
 PG level- BHU, Deccan College, MSU etc.
 Diploma- Institute of Archaeology, New Delhi; Lucknow University etc.
Skills Needed to Become an Archaeologist-
 Respect our glorious past and heritage,
 Enthusiasm & zeal to know with the developments in archaeology,
 well-organized approach, with effective attention to depth detail,
 strong team work skills, particularly at the time of fieldwork,
 self-motivation and focus,
 extra communication skills and the ability to effectively work with other,
 professionals,
 master in using various tools and instruments,
 patience and dedication,
 having good IT skills,
 an analytical and peace mind, with a keen interest in the archaeology.
Lacuna in Our Education System About Archaeology-
1. Subject should select at 10+2 level,
2. Interdisciplinary Subjects need,
3. Importance of an archaeology should add in every field,
4. This should be the part of promotion in every section,
5. Service should be like Doctors, Lawyers.

Background - The Faculty has one of the oldest hostels in the University named Birla Hostel constructed way back in 1921 by the legendary industrialist Shri Jugal Kishore Birla in the memory of his father Raja Baldev Das Birla. It is a large hostel and for administrative purposes it was divided in 3 sub-hostels - Birla A, Birla B and Birla C; about a decade back. भारत का प्राचीन इतिहास : एक मूल्याङ्कन

आज दिनांक ०२-०३-२०२० को बिड़ला छात्रावास अ में एक विशेष व्याख्यान का आयोजन किया गया । व्याख्यान का विषय ''भारत का प्राचीन इतिहास : एक मूल्याङ्कन'' था । वक्ता के रूप में डॉ अभय कुमार थे ।  डॉ अभय कुमार काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय के प्राचीन भारतीय इतिहास ,संस्कृति एवं पुरातत्व विभाग में सहायक प्राध्यापक हैं ।  उन्होंने अपने व्याख्यान की शुरुआत सर्वप्रथम इतिहास का परिचय देते हुए प्राचीन इतिहास के संदर्भो पर चर्चा से की । डॉ कुमार ने छात्रों के मन में चल रहे विभिन्न सवालों के जवाब दिए । उन्होंने प्राचीन इतिहास के अध्ययन के विविध आयामों पर चर्चा किया । उन्होंने विभिन्न प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में इतिहास से पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्नो पर भी चर्चा की । वर्तमान में इतिहास के पाठ्यक्रम पर भी चर्चा की । उन्होंने इतिहास से किस तरह के प्रश्न पूछे जाते हैं इस बात पर भी बल दिया । उन्होंने ने इतिहास की सतत मूल्याङ्कन की अवधारणा को प्रस्तुत किया और छात्रों के हर प्रश्न को संतुष्ट किया । उन्होंने इतिहास विषय के अकादमिक और अन्य अवसरों एवं सेवाओं के बारे में भी बताया । समस्त बिड़ला परिवार ह्र...
